Families across DC can reduce their utility bills, improve indoor air quality, and cut climate pollution through energy efficiency, electrification, and solar power—often at no cost. The DC Sustainable Energy Utility (DCSEU) provides rebates and no-cost services to help District residents make their homes healthier, more efficient, and climate-friendly.

DC's Energy efficiency & Electrification Programs

Affordable Home Electrification Program (AHEP)

What it does: Helps you switch from gas to efficient electric systems for heating, cooling, water heating, and cooking. Improves comfort and indoor air quality while cutting pollution.
Who it serves: DC residents in single-family homes and multifamily buildings with fewer than four units that have gas equipment. To qualify, household income must be less than 80% of the Area Median Income (which ranges from about $87,00 for a one-person household to about $124,000 for a family of four).

Solar for All

What it does: Provides no-cost rooftop solar systems installed by local contractors, helping households cut electricity bills by up to $500 per year.
Who it serves: DC residents in single-family homes and multifamily buildings with fewer than four units. To qualify, household income must be less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

Residential Energy Efficiency & Electrification Rebate Programs

Who it serves: All DC residents, regardless of income, in single-family homes and multifamily buildings where residents manage their own appliances and equipment.

Electric Lawn Care Rebates: Money back for switching to quieter, cleaner electric lawn mowers.
